Faculty Research Training – 2022
Advertisement for Faculty Research training
Applications are invited from faculty at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kabale School of Medicine and Clarke International University to undertake training in research. Limited research funding will be available for research focusing on community-based, clinical, operational, health professions education, epidemiological, biomedical and research in Communicable Diseases (e.g. HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, etc.) or non-communicable diseases of importance to Uganda. Priority will be given to faculty with limited research skills with a goal of addressing barriers to research productivity at the college. Up to 15 applicants will be selected and they will undergo a brief (2 days) didactic training in research proposal development prior to embarking on their research projects. Up to 4,000 US dollars per applicant (depending on budget) will be available support the research.
Eligibility
This training is open to all faculty and staff at the mentioned universities who contribute to research and student training. Faculty should be at level of Assistant Lecturer or Lecturer with draft research proposals. Priority will be given to applicants with suitable mentor(s) with whom they would work with.
Criteria for Selection
1. Assistant lecturer or Lecturer with a sound research proposal
2. Demonstrated interest in research training and conducting research
3. Capacity towards attaining research leadership and international recognition in one’s field
4. Female candidates are especially encouraged to apply
5. Commitment to developing at least one manuscript for publication based on their research
6. Applicants with research concepts focusing on any one of the following aspects will have an added advantage:
· Sickle Cell Disease (Clinical, Public Health, Psychosocial Biomedical aspects)
· HIV/AIDS
· Health Professions Education
Application Process
Applications must be submitted to hepishssu@gmail.com and should consist of a cover letter (1 page only), resume (not more than 3 pages) a personal statement (Maximum 1 page), research concept (maximum 5 pages) and one letter of recommendation from the Head of Department. The personal statement should include your contribution to the academic and research life of a department, your aspirations for career progression in the next 5-7 years, research interests and any information you consider relevant.
