NRIMS – SOMREC
Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) developed an Electronic Institutional Review Board (e-IRB) system called National Research Information Management System (NRIMS) mainly to improve on the turnaround time for obtaining ethical clearance from the respective regulatory bodies and to prevent IRB shopping. Several trainings have been held to equip RECs with knowledge on how to use the system. During the 31st FRECU meeting held on 21st September 2020 at Hotel Africana, all RECs were requested to adopt the system by December 2020.

The School of Medicine Research Ethics Committee (SOMREC) therefore wishes to inform all it’s esteemed Principal Investigators/Researchers that effective 1st November 2020, all initial submissions should be done online through the NRIMS system
